Summary of Findings

Members rated local leaders and the Shambhala Board more positively on features reflecting responsibility and fairness in 2023, compared to 2022. Leaders rated the Board more positively in 2023 than in 2022 on these features as well.

More leaders were clear about the role and activities of the Office of Practice and Education than they were about other divisions of Shambhala Global Services. In addition, more leaders were positive about communications from Practice and Education in 2023, compared to 2022.

In both survey years, members were asked whether they agreed or disagreed about aspects of local leadership and aspects of the leadership of the Shambhala Board. Member responses were slightly more positive in 2023 on whether members could rely on these leadership entities to fulfil their responsibilities, whether decision-making is considered fair and whether finances are managed responsibly.

Leaders were surveyed about their perceptions of five divisions of sets of activities in Shambhala Global Services (SGS). Leaders were clearest about the purpose and activities of the Office of Practice and Education in SGS. They were least familiar with the governance and leadership support activities in SGS.

How clear are you about the purposes and activities of the following SGS offices and departments?

Satisfaction with the clarity and completeness and with the frequency and responsiveness of communication improved between 2022 and 2023 for the Office of Practice and Education, and declined or remained the same for the other SGS divisions.

In 2023, the Leader survey asked additionally how satisfied respondents were with the ease of communication to these SGS divisions. The largest number of leaders were satisfied or very satisfied with ease of communication with the Office of Practice and Education.  The fewest were satisfied with ease of communication to the Office of Community Care and Conduct.

Finally, in both years leaders were asked whether they agreed whether they agreed that they could rely on the Board to fulfil its responsibilities, whether Board decision-making is considered fair, and whether the Board manages finances responsibly. More leaders agreed or strongly agreed with these statements in 2023, compared to 2022.
